A little Spark goes a long way...
SPARK is an art, yoga, and meditation business based in New York City offering private and group classes for children. Founded in 2015 by Artist Sebastian Alappat to provide smaller, intimate lessons with greater opportunity for individualized attention. Using different mediums, we aim to foster and cultivate each child's creative "spark" while teaching collaboration, confidence, and community. It has since grown to a team of Teaching Artists that have spread the program. Classes incorporate mindfulness, self-thought, reflection while simultaneously building confidence and community.
Art is crucial to child development. We believe it is vital to foster and cultivate creativity in children through art. Skills that allow for individual expression are more important than ever in our increasingly digital world. Art can serve as a dramatic development block for children. This foundation can give children the power of expression, which if fostered, leads to incredible growth.
Additionally, yoga and meditation are new tools that can have dramatic effects on kids. These disciplines create mindfulness and focus within children that are rarely given the opportunity to sit still.
Overall, the combination of art, yoga, and meditation have helped many of our artists with:
