En plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air, ”and refers to the act of painting outdoors with the artist's subject in full view. We had 6 SUCCESSFUL weeks of this camp during the Summer of 2020 and its now going to be an option for families looking for an in-person solution to Fall enrichment with safety and minimal risk being taken.

My intention to create an intimate, after school experience based on what our children need which is a sense of normalcy, social interaction, being a part of a community and the freedom and fun of childhood.
We will make various art projects outside like the great masters of our time through outdoor Plein air techniques. Using the backdrop of our city and parks (Riverside and Central) Spark artists will be given the opportunity to be outdoors, taking advantage of space, having fun and creating like never before all while keeping safe social distancing guidelines.

Prior to the start of semester, you will be asked to fill out this waiver attesting to your child's health for the previous 14 days Common sense communication with regards to child's health: If your child is currently sick at any point of semester, they will not be able to participate until they are cleared with a full bill of health. Form will also include a release for the risks and health for all involved.
What is the age range?
Based on the nature of this program, hygiene and the outdoor intention of this program is for mature artists ages 6 and up.
Why only 8 kids?
Spark has always maintained smaller classes for greater interaction, learning and this has led to our camp being like no other. In light of the pandemic, this cap is is strictly being followed to ensure safety. As a result, this is a first-come, first-serve basis. If you miss a day because of demand, please try for another day.
What will they learn?
Spark has prided itself on innovative lessons based on self study and growth. This program is a combination of our love affair with New York City, nature and art. Semester will contain the general basics of what Plein air art is all about. We will set up shop in the park and give children the opportunity to make art outside. We will teach fundamentals of painting and bringing a scene to life. Our lessons will vary lessons each day to allow children to learn new techniques and paint personal stories.
Will yoga and meditation be a part of this program?
Of course. What better place to practice than the outdoors ? We will connect our wavelengths with nature before we tap into our fonts of creativity.
What if it rains?
Should there be severe inclement weather, we will use the Spark studio at 72nd street while maintaining safe social distancing, hand washing, and sanitization. That said, our intention is to be outside as much as possible, let's face it! Our children have been inside for too long and Fall in New York is magical!
What do we need to bring?
* Comfortable sneakers (we will be walking!)
* Masks ( while outside and socially distance, it will not be mandatory but for all other closed quarters, it will be needed
* Snack and water bottle and a small throw blanket or towel (no sharing)
• Backpack to carry art supplies easier
• Children will be given A Separated set of supplies specifically for their day, NO SHARED SUPPLIES!
Where is pick and drop off?
Upon registering, you will be emailed the weekend before semester starts all instructions on where to pick up and drop off. For planning, it will be circa West 72nd Street by (1,2,3 train ) station. We will explore staggering times to reduce the number of families who need to gather at the front of the building.
How can you ensure the safety of my child?
Following this quarantine, my intention to to get back to making art while being outside with respect to social distance guidelines. This also means getting them moving, being around other kids, breathing the fresh air and giving them a chance to be kids, see their friends and have fun. By doing this we will be giving them something they have sorely lacked and can't be administered solely via a screen. I am also using 6 weeks of running our Plein Air Camp this summer as proof.
Practices we will implement during the camp:
• Rules and restrictions explained to the children on first day of class.
• No shared supplies or snacks.
• Hand-washing and sanitization whenever possible upon going inside.
• Walking to and from parks with spacing (we don't hold hands at Spark)
• Social distancing inside the studio (stations spaced out for 8 kids.)
• Daily disinfecting /cleaning of studio before and prior inside classes ( standard practice of operating since May)
• Using the stairs (not elevator) to access studio
• Using the bathrooms in Park (Riverside) with rigorous hand washing pre and post bathroom use.
• Child safe 6 foot zones when outside to maintain distance (this is inherent with Plein Air Art)
Kindly put, if you are uncomfortable with any of this or you are not ready (which is fine!) then this program isn't for you.
We have lots of virtual classes for your kids. that they can participate in.
If cancelled due to any circumstances relating to COVID-19, will I get a refund? What if we cancel?
If for any reason the classes canceled due to logistics on our end or NYC operating guidelines, you will be given credit towards virtual classes. If sick or canceling during the semester, no refund is given.
